Meet EdPuzzle

Edpuzzle is a web-based platform through which students and teachers can create more interactive video content. This platform is ideal for online learning and the flipped classroom. For example, before assigning a video for student viewing, teachers would access it or upload it onto Edpuzzle and pause it, create voice-overs, add multiple choice or extended response questions at certain points, and even edit longer videos to shorter clips that address a specific learning objective. Teachers can enhance content and even modify and adjust it extend learning, modify it for students with special needs, including gifted students or students with different learning styles. This platform can be used as a formative assessment tool, provided substantial data for teachers immediately following the student’s interaction with the media provided. Teachers can even tell if students have skipped ahead in the video, repeated certain parts, or paused at certain sections. Edpuzzle has many choices for pre-loaded content, and educators can share the content they have developed with a wider audience or share out in their own learning communities/school district. One down-side is that it may take some effort and time to sift through content options. Teachers should plan to preview all videos before assigning, to make sure content is appropriate and aligned with learning targets. Accounts are compatible with Google accounts; completed video experiences can be easily posted to Google Classroom or Schoology.

Learning can be extended by asking students to utilize Edpuzzle to modify and engage with media and create their own interactive video experience. Both students and teachers can create their own content, teach lessons through videos and then edit after that. (Though the video editing side is limited and should be done first in another platform. The main purpose of the editing tools provided by Edpuzzle are for interaction and data collection. )
