Textgiraffe is a logo design tool that is an easy and quick resource that can stand alone or to supplement other more complex graphic design tools. Users can generate designs quickly on this platform. Because of its simplicity, students and teachers can design a logo quickly, without the distraction of too many options, images, fonts and colors, for example, to sift through. This might be ideal for students with special needs who might be over whelmed by a larger site, such as Canva. Working with TextGiraffe could be almost a “gateway” for students to learn about online graphic design. Perhaps younger students might be more engaged in spelling, vocabulary or foreign language lessons when allowed to manipulate images on Textgiraffe. Later, their creations could be uploaded into more difficult graphic design managers such as Photoshop or Canva. Textgiraffe is also helpful in the school library to support branding/marketing of library programming, in signage, school website logos and book displays. I use a common textGiraffe design on most of the signage in my library. I can quickly jump to the site, modify the word I need, and add it to the display or programming advertisement. This brings coherence and a brand feel to library presentations. In developing collaborative relationships with teachers in the building, this gateway graphic design tool is easy enough for every teacher to pick up quickly and feel instantly comfortable demonstrating to students with or without the librarian present.
